Caving is the recreational sport of exploring caves. The challenges of the sport depend on the cave visited, but usually include the negotiation of pitches, squeezes, and water. Climbing, crawling or even Cave Diving is often necessary, and ropes are used extensively.

Caving is often undertaken solely for the enjoyment of the activity or for physical exercise, but exploration, as well as physical or biological science can also be an important motivation for cavers.

In recent decades, caving has changed considerably due to the availability of modern protective wear and equipment. It has recently come to be known as an "extreme sport" by some due to Cave Diving and its inherent risks. Cave Diving is a type of technical diving in which specialised SCUBA equipment is used to enable the exploration of natural or artificial caves, which are at least partially filled with water. Very few of the caves in the UK are fed by natural light so most exploration uses torch/electric light. Use the Your Leisure Time Quick Search to find caving schools in the UK.
