Diving is a sport for both men and women involving jumping from a platform or diving board and performing defined body movements as perfectly as possible, before plunging attractively into the surface of the water.
History Although Diving dates back to the 4th Century B.C., it evolved as a sport first in England and Australia, and then spread to the United States and continental Europe. Between 1800 and 1840, gymnastics programmes were developed in Germany and Sweden that included diving from platforms. Synchronised Diving was added to the World Championships in 1995 and to the Olympics in 2000. |
